Diamond Space
Off the Drive (2006)
Imagine spending your formative years as a Canadian behind the Berlin Wall in East Germany. Your father studies composition at the Conservatory of Music there, your uncle is a renowned activist folk singer
Diamond Space is Michael Friedman's latest musical creation, belaying influences which range from Beatles, Jazz and Gustav Mahler through Canada’s Joni Mitchell and Bruce Cockburn to his roots in traditional and contemporary Jewish Folk Music. Friedman's decidedly compositional guitar style sets a high standard for modern folk music and puts him squarely in the company of such innovators as Don Ross and Michael Hedges.
Lyrical and visceral, Diamond Space is a collaborative effort which merges Friedman's talents with those of producer and main lyricist, Sam Masich whose wordsmithing is well respected in Canadian songwriting circles.
