Peace Concert Berlin, Germany October, 2021

“....if man is no longer seen and respected as such, then the prerequisites for any culture are destroyed and thus fascism became the gravedigger of culture.”
From the lecture - Fascism as the Enemy of Culture -
Ludwig Kirsch 1946
“Too bad, too late!” - Ludwig van Beethoven
In October 2021, I was invited to perform as part of an international ensemble in a concert dedicated to world peace. Organized by the Arts Council Kunsthof Köpenick, representatives of varied cultures converged on the Friedenskirche in Berlin-Grünau (Peace Church Berlin-Grünau). As the Jewish-Canadian participant, I played together with Kurdish, Syrian, Afghani and German singers / musicians to an enthusiastic indoor crowd (at one-half capacity due to pandemic restrictions) and a considerably larger outdoor audience watching the performance on large screen. Each of us players enjoyed the backing of a very diverse group of musicians making it a wonderfully enriching cultural experience for performers and audience alike.
“The intention of this Concert for Peace is to give people who profess humanism and peace, sympathy for their fellow humans and solidarity the strength and courage to bring this into their own environment over and over, to not remain silent, to express themselves, to be aware.”
